Booking a tourAbout Birdfinders |
Birdfinders have been out and about again, this time to the Falkland Islands, preparing a fantastic new tour to this superb location. We went via Ascension Island and were fortunate enough to see the endemic Ascension Island Frigatebird during our 2-hour refuelling stop. On the Falkland Islands we visited all of the important sites and enjoyed not only the wonderful wildlife but also the stunning scenery. All of the wildlife here is incredibly approachable as it has never been persecuted, and whilst numerically there aren't many different species, this is more than compensated by the fantastic view. From King Penguins gently pecking your clothes out of curiosity to Blackish Cincloides (Tussockbirds) following you wherever you go to catch the insects you disturb, and Striated Caracaras waiting to steal your lunch, the experience is unique. Add to this the herds of Southern Elephant Seals you can watch from just a few yards and the Southern Sea Lions from a more discrete distance and you have got the perfect holiday destination. But that's not all; Birdfinders is including four nights in Chile on the return journey so you will have the chance to see sought-after species like Andean Condor, Diademed Sandpiper Plover, and Giant Hummingbird in the mountains and a feast of seabirds including several species of albatrosses plus Inca Terns on a pelagic. |
