SOUTHERN THAILAND 2007

Birdfinders have been in southern Thailand preparing a new tour to this beautiful region full of speciality birds. With the exception of an overnight stay in Bangkok, this holiday is at a single base in Ao Nang, around 1,000 km south of the capital near Krabi, in peninsula Thailand. In Bangkok, you will have the opportunity to visit the saltpans southwest of the city, which is a regular wintering site for the magnificent trio of waders: Spoon-billed Sandpiper, Nordmann’s Greenshank and Great Knot. You will also have the evening free to enjoy the sights and sounds of this vibrant city. In Ao Nang, we will stay for nine nights at a superb, quiet resort comprising nine detached villas, each with two air conditioned en-suite bedrooms, lounge with satellite TV, kitchen/diner with fridge, minibar and tea and coffee making facilities. The villas even have their own individual private swimming pools! Led by a top local guide, each day we will travel out to various sites within two hours of Ao Nang where we will look for such wonderful selection of birds, many of them otherwise only found further south in Malaysia, including Chinese Egret, Pale-capped Pigeon, Barred Eagle-owl, Sunda Scops-owl, Javan Frogmouth, Rufous-collared Kingfisher, Orange-breasted Trogon, the critically endangered Gurney’s Pitta, Red-and-black Broadbill, Chestnut-naped Forktail and Whiskered Treeswift to name but a few! Additionally, we will be taking a boat to the Similan Islands where we have an excellent chance of seeing both the near-mythical Nicobar Pigeon and Pied Imperial-pigeon. All food is included in this tour and you will have the opportunity to try genuine Thai cuisine. This new tour is sure to be popular so early booking is recommended! A full itinerary and photo gallery can be found on the website and a free CD is available to anyone contemplating this tour.
